A rank is earned by submitting an application for moderator position, admin, or co-owner.
It is also ranked by your post count.

Post count ranks are:

Newbie     0   
Junior   50   
Full      100   
Senior   250   
Hero      500   

However, you can apply HERE for custom ranks which do not require anything but you are active in the forums. Just type what you want your rank to be called, the color of your rank, etc.
